Greetings from The Martha's Vineyard Regional High School Class of 1961. You are on our official home page. www.mvrhs1961.50megs.com

MVRHS CLASS of  1961 was the second class to graduate from the new Martha's Vineyard Regional High School. 1960 was the first time all Vineyard high school students were united under one roof. Oak Bluffs, Vineyard Haven, Edgartown, West Tisbury, Chilmark and Aquinnah (Gay Head). We arrived with anticipation and a little anxiety. In the end we made many new friends and remember these few years with fond memories. This site is a new format for the class of 1961. It is owned and run by our class, not another outside entity. Here we can stay in touch and up to date on  events. Hopefully it will be a place where we can exchange ideas, etc.. Since this hosting  site is new to me I will attempt to keep things simple and add pages as we go along. Have any ideas??? Something you might like to add.  Get in touch through the email links listed on this site. Recent photos and contact information have their own page on this site. Keep the class informed and let us know what your doing.

SITE UPDATE June 11, 2017

Quick Updates Below

Final reunion June 10,2017.  56 years since we left to take on the  outside world. We had a excellent turnout, great weather, food and friendship. It was decided  to use bulk email (photo sharing in the future )  I will maintain this site as long as it makes sense. Thanks to Rich and Lydia for hosting the reunion and to all that worked to make this a perfect day

Well it appears I havent been on our site for awhile so just a small update. I have started a blog page on our site in hopes of contacting any and all Vineyard alumni if possible. Its near impossible to find other classmates and MVRHS has not been responsive to my suggestion that one be added to their official site. Since this site is run by our classmates and has no fees to join I thought it might work. We are easy to find in the search engines and I don't charge for my time so lets see what happens. Spread the word, email me or post on the blog. I will add any information you  would like me to post.

I started a photo slide show page "Reunion 2011" below. Will add more as received. At this point the photo's are posted on the Snapfish site

To View Jim Wordens Photo Album  for the class reunion click the link below in red or check with Jim. To view the photo's of the class free lance photographers click the orange link. You should be able to view these photos without signing in to Snapfish, all 191 of them. Not sure this link will work for everyone. Please let me know if you have a problem.

Our mvrhs1961.com address is now defunct and we are operating on a free site as long as it lasts. I would love to have updated photos for our memory page if at all possible please send to thevineyarder@gmail.com. I will post our site on Facebook again 12-02-15. Not much new news so if you would like to add anything feel free to let me know. Thanks Don

NEW NEWS 10/9/2016  I know the site is not being used very much which is disappointing on my end as  I always felt  the class was pretty tight and I  thought keeping up with each other was important as a group. So be it, though I will still spend time updating  important news. The latest has to do with what will be our last organized reunion get-to-gether. On 10/8 we got together at Mary Ellen's home to decide on a final date for the event. We have been trying for over a year now to put it together and for one reason or another something changed. So Mary Ellen, Rich, Lydia, Mike, Peter Ginnie, Elaine, and myself met  and it was decided to go with June 10,2017. Rich and Lydia offered their home for the event which is a perfect setting. I think 1:00 was discussed and it was decided that the remaining class funds will purchase the food. This is it folks a last chance get-to-gether to see your classmates as a group, best, you as well as your spouse are welcome to attend without charge. PLEASE THIS IS IMPORTANT We are not sure all the classmate info is updated on everyone so if you are in contact with members please have them get in touch. My email is on this site or you can check Facebook or Islanders Talk. A general search on Facebook should bring up something.............

OLD NEWS

With Sept 19th  behind us and the conclusion of our 50th reunion. Friday night at Mary Ellens was well attended with plenty of good eats. It was great getting together with classmates, some since the last reunion. It was a early night  with anticipation of the coming event. Sat night was just perfect, the views over Lagoon Pond made a great setting for our Vineyard Reunion. The interior of Salt Water was flooded with purple lighting and the views from the glass exterior wall scanned a perfect Vineyard view.  My concern has been a good dance area and  Salt Water proved to be right on. The sound system was great. I spent over 5 hours adding sounds of the 50's and 60's to my ipod. One music file for  dinner, another for dancing. It didn't take long to fill the dance floor and many of us spent the rest of the night working out. A couple of classmates  showed up for their first reunion and left us guessing after  50+ years of aging. The dinner and service were perfect and Saltwater was our private night club until it was time  to part for the evening.  As the sounds of " Goodnight My Love" played on  we could reminisce of the Saturday night boys club dances while preparing to conclude the evening and this part of our three day event. Sunday at Rich and Lydia's was again well attended and the Olsen's  were the best hosts ever.  Rich moved his antique cars out of the garage and set up several tables for food and seating. Grills were cooking the usual hot dogs and hamburgers, oysters on the half shell, clam chowder, topped with all the good food everyone contributed. The weather was perfect and a great selection of tibets to serve everyone's palate.  Overall it was probably one of the best reunions to date as confirmed by all the thanks  received by the end of the day. I will post photos as available so check back later.

Would love to know if you are using our website, please email me at thevineyarder@gmail.com  and let me know.  Would also be nice to have a few more old photos of you or classmates, around town, at the beach, etc., you can email  them to me and I will post them with the others. November 2013:  It appears there is little interest in developing our class site. That said I will keep it going as long as possible as a couple of our classmates are genuinely interested in news, updates about  our classmates.

IN MEMORY OF OUR CLASSMATES: PLEASE SEE PAGE ON THIS SITE DEVOTED TO OUR DECEASED CLASSMATES

CLASS ASSIGNMENTS:

I will develop this site with photos and information if it proves to be popular.  Since this requires time it will depend on input from class members. If you have ideas, recent photos, a little background history, anything that might be of interest to the rest of the class get in touch and I will fumble my way through this format and try to put it all together. Since this site is free there are limitations. If the site starts to develop it might be necessary to move to a paid format. In the meantime stop back once in awhile and stay up on recent events in reference to the class. For changes and updates please email Don Macdonald Below </head>
